GENERAL MANAGER

ST IVES (HUNTS) GOLF CLUB, Cambridgeshire

Founded in 1923 and with a current membership of around 600, St Ives (Hunts) Golf Club is seeking to appoint a new General Manager. In 2010 the club sold its old 9-hole course for housing development and it moved to a purpose built inland links style 18-hole course with a new clubhouse, driving range and extensive practise facilities. The Club is well financed and has a comprehensive strategy to provide affordable golf, invest in course and club development and improve ongoing profitability. The Club is proud to be the home of the Titleist European Fitting Centre.

Reporting to the Chairman of the Management Board, the new General Manager will be responsible for the efficient management and leadership of all aspects of the Club.

The key challenges will be:

  • Further development and delivery of the the long term Strategic Plan.
  • Taking initiatives and preparing business plans to generate income and improve profitability of the core areas of the business; this will include increasing membership and utilisation of the course, developing hospitality services and taking initiatives to use the facilities and course infrastructure to improve the Club’s operating position.
  • Lead the further development of the golf course and practise facilities so they are recognised as the best in the region.

The successful candidate will have a strong management and leadership background, not necessarily in the golfing industry. However, experience of developing a customer focused business, possibly in the hospitality sector, would be a distinct advantage. He/She will also need to demonstrate the financial and commercial acumen that comes from running a successful business enterprise, the ability to manage and develop staff and the personality to build strong relationships with members, visitors and external organisations.

Further details can be requested by sending an email to Douglas Philip – doug.philip@dpsmconsultants.com.

Applications should be sent to Douglas Philip via the email address above and must include a covering letter demonstrating how the applicant will deliver the key challenges together with a full CV and references (references will not be contacted without the applicant permission).
